During the commissioning phase of a new batch furnace line, a customer requested M&P develop recipes (normalizing, quench and temper, and stress relieving) for all their parts on this line. As this line was already purchased prior to our involvement, constraints existed within equipment capabilities. After review of the line and part specifications, M&P was able to develop a recipe for every part. In addition, we were able to insource work that had been sent external in the past as a cost saving opportunity. During this, we monitored the capacity of the line to ensure all parts could process with no risk. In parallel, M&P conducted the run-off of the line in the form of a temperature uniformity study (TUS) per CQI-9 and validating the time to temperature for the part cross section. This engagement led to $500,000 in annual savings for the client.
